Bon jeon(Main
Hall)
Hyeonchungsa is the shrine where the
portrait of Chungmugong, General Yi
Sunsin is being kept.
In 1704, Confucian(scholars) of Chungcheongdo
presented a memorial to the King to
build a shrine and the court allowed
this in 1706. That shrine was located
at the site of present Chungmu Education
Institution.
On the April of 1707, King Sukjong
granted the frame of Hyeonchungsa
and in 1727, moved the grave of his
nephews - Kang mingong, Lee Wan and
Chungmingong, Lee Bongsang here to
be enshrined together. |

In
1868(the 5th year of King Gojong), Hyeonchungsa
which also functioned as a Seowon(a lecture
hall) was abolished by Daewongun's seowon
removal ordinance and on February of 1906,
Confucian scholars who was about 'Eulsa
Joyak(an unequal treaty between Joseon and
Japan)' built a monement of Hyeonchungsa
yooheo.
Afterwards, the grave of Yi Sunsin was
in danger of passing onto a Japanese”®s
property during the rule of Japan . So,
nationalists who heard this news organized
"a group for preserving Yi sunsin's
remains" and raised fund and raised
fund to rebuild Sadang on June 5th of
1932 in order to put the spirit of nation
to right by raising high the great achievements
of General Yi Sunsin. According to the
consecrated ground indication of the late
president Park Jeong-Hee, the main hall
of today was newly constructed and the
old one had been used as Beajeon before
being moved to the side of 'the exhibition
hall of remains".
The festival has been held every year
by the government in memory of general
Yi Sunsin's birthday on 28th of April.
