Hongsalmun
This is the Red Gate that is put
up at the front entrance of the
palace, a government office, a royal
tomb, garden, grave, shrine and
it marks the start of the precincts
of the shrine. It also expresses
that the place is a sacred ground
to keep the piety.
For civil uses, it was raised
at the entrance of the house where
a person who was awarded as a
faithful retainer, a good son
or a virtuous woman lived.

Hyeonchungsa Hongsalmun
has been located at the place where it was
built in the beginning in 1932 until now
to keep the sincerity of nation in those
days of shrine rebuilding under the rule
of Japanese imperialism in spite of the
expansion of the grounds.
