Gubonjeon(Old Main Hall)

According to the Seowon removal ordinance of Deawongun in 1868, the first Hyeonchungsa shrine was removed. Besides, family property of the eldest grandson of the main family(13th descendent Lee, Jong-Ok) was exhausted due to nation eraser policy of Japan and so was suffering greatly from debt.

Even the area of Yi Sunsin's grave and the yard for getting money to memorial service were faced with passing into japan's hands. When this news was reported in May 1931 via Dong-A Dailities, some faithful people organized "a group for preserve keeping Yi Sunsin's remains" and cooperated with Dong-A Dailies to raise fund. They raised 16,210 won 30 jeon from 20 thousands of people.
After having paid back the debts, the group used the rest of the fund to hold the inauguration ceremony of Hyeonchungsa and the enshrining ceremony of the portrait drawn by the artist Cheongjeon, Lee Sang-Beom at the same time on 5th of June in 1932. Hyeonchungsa Monument was also set up then.

This was used as Beajeon for a while when the main building was rebuilt by construction in 1967. Then it was moved to current location beside of remain hall in September 1968.
