The first of Admiral Yi enshrined in the
hyeonchungsa Shrine was painted by a distinguished
artist Lee Sang-beom in 1932 when Korea
was under Japan's colonial -rule. With
is original colors faded, it was once
substituted by the one painted by Artist
Kim Eun-Ho. The current was a portrait
which another renowned artist
Chang Woo-Soung painted based on the content of Seoae (Pseudonym) Yu Seong-yong 's Jingbirok
in 1953. It was designated as the official
portrait of Chungmugong on 30 October
1973 by the Seonhyeon(Saga) Portrait Screening
Committee. Admiral Yi's features described
in Jingbirok(Memories of the Japanese
Invasion)are as follows:
"There was a Valiant spirit in Sun-sin.
He sacrificed himsalf for the country.
This resulted from his having cultivated
his mind steadily."
Some other portraits and bronze statues
of Admiral Yi are now preserved at several
places other than Hyeonchungsa.
