Nanjung Ilgi, a war
diary wirtten by Admiral Yi during the war
Period of 2591-98, is an important historical
record for study of the whole history of
politics and military affairs at that time
because it is not describing only his nature,
pure feelings about some policies and reward
and punishment to his men, but also communications
with his reatices, subordinates and important
public and civil figures,covert stratagems
of military operations and so forth in detail.
It consists of seven volumes where the diary
continues from the month after the Japanes
Invasion broke out until theh month before
his death with exception of some sporadic
omissions. Its physical composition is as

This diary was initially
untitled. the title Nangjung Ilgi was first given
for the sake of concenience in the course of being
compiled along with Admiral Yi's other writings
during the reign of King Jeongjo. The diary, along
with Seogancheop,a collection of his personal
letters, and Imjinjangcho, report to a king, was
designated as National Treasure No. 76 as of 23
January 1959. |
